The Voyle B. Martin American Legion Post #93’s 30th Annual Fishing Derby will be held from Feb. 28 to March 1.
This is one of its biggest fundraisers of year. The legion will also hold its annual membership drive on Saturday, Feb. 28, beginning at noon.
This is the one time of the year that the legion is allowed to invite the public to visit its home to learn more about what they do for veterans and the local community. Membership Coordinator Leila Elliff will be on hand with members of each unit (Post, Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion) to answer any questions about ongoing projects.
The community is invited to visit the American Legion and check on the status of the fishing derby. On Saturday, Feb. 28 they will be serving spaghetti dinner, which includes French bread, green salad, and delicious homemade cake for $8.
The legion is not allowed to serve the public in the lounge on Friday and Sunday but the public is invited to attend the Friday and Sunday night dinners in the main hall. Friday is burger night (burgers, cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, pasta salad, potato salad, and chips for $7) and Sunday is chili night with all the fixings and rolls for $7.
