On Saturday, Oct. 4, St. Francis Catholic Church will hold the fifth annual Columbus Day Spaghetti Dinner at the Orcas Center from 5 to 8 p.m.
The evening will include dinner, a quilt raffle, a silent auction and entertainment. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
St. Francis Parish has about 40 families who are regular, year-round members of the Orcas Catholic community. In the summer, their membership increases with many visitors. With no Catholic Priest in residence on the island, Father Dave Young, a retired Navy chaplain and a private pilot, flies to Orcas on Sundays to say Mass at the Eastsound church. He also serves Catholic communities at Whidbey Island Naval Air Staton and the Naval Support Complex in Smoky Point.
To help defray the costs for him to fly to Orcas weekly, the parish holds the Columbus Day Spaghetti Dinner and fundraiser.
Tickets are available after Mass on Sundays at St. Francis Church, at Island Market on Saturdays, and at the door. Call Velma Doty at 376-6847 or Dave Dilling at 376-4314 for more information.
