As a resident of the San Juan Islands, you know just how special this area is – it’s your home. At Hospice of the Northwest, the staff know just how important your home is to you – they call this area home too. They’re your neighbors and part of your day-to-day community! The team at Hospice of the Northwest also understands why you might want to age in place, in your own home and on your terms.
How people choose to age has changed over the years, as has hospice — it may not be what you imagine.
“We serve you where you are physically, emotionally and spiritually,” says Carrie McBride, marketing and communications manager for Hospice of the Northwest. “The patient takes the lead. You make your own decisions about where and how you live.”
Compassion, dignity and support
End-of-life options is a difficult topic, and at Hospice of the Northwest, they want you to be able to make the most of every moment at this important part of your journey.
Each patient is assigned a dedicated care team with a Board-certified physician, nurse, social worker, spiritual counselor and other service providers as needed. As experts in the field, Hospice of the Northwest’s staff focus on you, your needs and your goals, while also supporting your loved ones.
There are many things to consider, and it’s more important to focus on making the most of each day — not fussing with paperwork or worrying about resources. Years of experience means that the staff at Hospice of the North West can help you and your family deal with all those details and make sure that you don’t miss anything, all in a compassionate and caring way.
Stay in your own home
Most importantly, staff can discuss how they can help you stay in the home you love – where you’ve lived many of the important moments in your life and where you’re most comfortable. Many people believe hospice care is only for the last week or two of someone’s life, but most patients qualify much earlier in their journey with a life-limiting illness.
Hospice focuses on quality of life, allowing you to live on your own terms. The cost of hospice care is covered by Medicare and most other insurances. Hospice of the Northwest is owned by two public hospital districts and receives additional funding from a non-profit foundation.
