The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.
Nov. 16
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to an order violation.
Nov. 17
• A woman on Shaw reported she had been a victim of a fraudulent scam on the internet.
• An Orcas man reported mail stolen from his mailbox.
• A deputy arrested a person in Friday Harbor for an active misdemeanor warrant for failing to appear on a DUI charge. The person was booked into jail without incident awaiting a next-day hearing.
• An Orcas woman reported a fraud involving a person stating he was from Amazon.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a local business for a report of trespassing. The store manager wanted to trespass a known individual for making employees uncomfortable. The deputy located the individual who was served with the trespass warning letter.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. No crime was committed and the two parties separated for the night.
Nov. 18
• An Orcas deputy responded to a domestic dispute. An investigation was conducted, and it was determined no crime was committed.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an animal bite. The victim was attempting to stop his dog and another unknown dog from fighting and was bitten.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of an accident with an injury. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and was also issued a citation for driving with wheels off the roadway. The driver stated that they swerved to miss a deer, but it was apparent that they drove straight at a curve in the roadway.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a threatening call in Friday Harbor. The deputy spoke with the person receiving the threats. However, since the threats did not meet the criminal threshold, the person was provided advice and other options.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a domestic dispute. An investigation was conducted, and it was determined no crime was committed.
• A deputy on San Juan was contacted about a possible case of fraud. The person reported that someone was attempting to extort money from them. At the time of the call, the victim had experienced no financial loss.
Nov. 19
• In Friday Harbor, property that was found was turned into the sheriff’s office and entered as evidence per policy.
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a walk-in report of a burglary from a storage unit. Entry was made from an adjoining unit where the wall was kicked in and the property was taken. Deputies have no leads.
• A Lopez deputy responded when a chicken attempted an escape while its owner was busy gardening. The chicken made it out onto Ferry Road but was quickly recovered by the owner.
• A deputy on San Juan conducted a traffic stop. The driver received a citation for speeding, 45 mph in a 25-mile-per-hour zone.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen assist call that involved an encounter with a loose dog the previous day.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance on Orcas. The incident was found to be verbal only and domestic violence information was provided.
• A deputy on San Juan took custody of a travel-size game bag that had been found by a citizen near Cannery Landing in Friday Harbor and entered it into evidence as found property.
•A deputy was dispatched to a call about a prowler on Orcas. An unknown suspect was seen looking into the windows of a condo unit.
• An Orcas deputy authored a courtesy report for an accident on private property that resulted in minor property damage.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of suspicious activity that ended up being a rollover accident. The driver had lost control of the vehicle due to icy conditions and overcorrecting. All passengers were seen by EMS and released at the scene.
Nov. 20
• A San Juan deputy took a report of fraud. The caller said that a person made unauthorized purchases while grocery shopping for them. They said they did not wish to pursue criminal charges in the matter.
• A deputy responded to a call about a missing person in the San Juan area. The caller said a family member had been missing for over a day. Steps were taken to attempt to locate the missing person who, ultimately, returned home on his own.
• A Lopez resident reported the theft of a kayak and trespassing along a trail in front of his home.
• Deputies on San Juan conducted a welfare check. After multiple unsuccessful attempts and strange circumstances, a supervisor granted permission to enter the person in question’s residence. Once inside, the individual was found to be alive and well.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of vandalism in Friday Harbor. The person reported some damage to mailboxes not currently in use. There are no known suspects at this time.
Nov. 21
• A deputy on San Juan took a report of fraud. The unknown suspects posed as “Geek Squad” and accessed the victim’s computer along with bank account information and withdrew a large sum of money. There are no suspects or workable leads at this time.
• A deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist call on Orcas where a non-custodial parent was concerned about the housing for their child. It was determined that the child had sufficient housing.
Nov. 22
• On San Juan, a deputy was dispatched to a welfare check after a caller expressed concern about a person in a boat on the lake. The person in the boat was contacted and came to shore, said they were okay, and went to their residence.
• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to an animal-at-large call. A dog was retrieved and brought to the animal shelter. The owner was contacted and given a warning for their dog being at large.
