The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

April 26

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a juvenile problem. No crime had been committed..

• A deputy responded to a reported vehicle collision on Orcas. It appeared the driver may have fallen asleep or been driving while fatigued. There were no injuries.

• An off-duty deputy observed a traffic offense of unsafe passing in a congested area in Eastsound. The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation.

• A deputy on San Juan took a walk-in report of found property. The deputy was given a large garbage bag that contained personal belongings and rotten food. The bag was booked into evidence as found property and the food was disposed of.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of threats. The reporting party did not wish to pursue charges but did want the incident to be documented.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to an animal noise call. The reporting party explained that a neighbor’s dog gets out of its yard and always barks. The dog’s owner was contacted and knew about their dog getting out that day. The owner was issued a dog-at-large letter.

• Deputies on San Juan located an individual to whom the court had issued 11 warrants for their arrest. The individual was booked into the San Juan County Jail, and given a warning for possessing a controlled substance.

April 27

• An Orcas deputy towed an abandoned vehicle from the 300 block of Crescent Beach Road.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of theft, but the suspect was not located. The following day they were taken into custody having been found to have stolen from three stores, though only one wished to pursue charges. The suspect was charged with theft-3rd and trespassed from all store locations.

• A San Juan deputy initiated a traffic stop for a seatbelt violation. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance on the vehicle and a warning about the seatbelt violation.

• A deputy responded to a report of a dog attacking another dog on Orcas. After an investigation, the owner of the aggressive dog was issued a public nuisance dog citation. The other dog did not appear to be badly injured.

April 28

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the car’s title had not been transferred. The driver was arrested and booked for felony DUI, assault-3rd degree, obstructing a law enforcement officer, and DWLS-3rd degree.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic with shots fired. One person was arrested for assault 1-Domestic Violence, resisting arrest, obstructing a law enforcement officer, and reckless endangerment for firing multiple rounds during an argument.

April 29

• A deputy on Orcas responded to an assault call. There was insufficient evidence an assault had occurred, and the deputy provided suggestions for help and assisted in exchanging some of personal property.

• A Lopez resident reported possible damage to his vehicle, though there was no evidence at the time.

April 30

• An Orcas business asked to have someone trespassed, and a deputy served the person a trespass warning letter.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver was subsequently issued a citation for speeding 42 mph in a 25 mph speed zone.

• A citizen left a found power tool outside the front door of the Orcas Substation. The tool was booked into the evidence room.

• Deputies on San Juan saw jail cell safety camera footage of an in-custody individual giving another in-custody individual their medication. The individual admitted to it, and a probable cause statement was sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

May 1

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a theft call at a local business. The suspect was arrested for theft in the third degree.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report that a citizen found a debit card in Friday Harbor and turned it in to the Sheriff’s Office. After attempts were unsuccessful to contact the owner multiple times, the card was entered into evidence.

May 2

• A recurring dog-at-large problem resulted in a San Juan resident receiving a dog-at-large citation.

• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a civil call. The parties were separated, and it was determined that no crime had been committed.
