The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

July 26

• A Lopez deputy responded to a suspicious call. The matter is under investigation.

• A deputy on Orcas towed a vehicle that had been parked more than 72 hours in violation of posted parking restrictions.

July 27

• A deputy, along with Orcas Fire and Rescue personnel, responded to a downed aircraft. The passenger was airlifted for further evaluation and treatment. The deputy informed the National Transportation Safety Board and completed a report.

• San Juan deputies stopped a motorist in Friday Harbor for not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance or a valid license with identification. Additional warnings were also given and the incident was documented.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of a person in crisis. The person was taken into custody and delivered to a medical facility for further evaluation and treatment.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a call about a theft.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a request to trespass a person. The trespass letter was issued to the involved party and the trespass laws were explained to them.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a parking problem at the county dock at Obstruction Pass and tagged a vehicle for removal.

• A deputy took a report of a cold burglary on San Juan. An unknown person appeared to have stayed in a locked residence. No damage occurred but small items were missing. No suspect information exists at the present time.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of vandalism on Land Bank property. A large rock had significant graffiti damage and lettering gouged into it. The damage was photographed and the incident was documented.

• San Juan deputies, San Juan Fire, and San Juan EMS were dispatched to a reported downed aircraft at Friday Harbor Airport. The pilot and his K9 were alright. The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and the incident was documented.

• A San Juan deputy observed an individual driving a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. The individual was issued a citation for DWLS, 2nd degree.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a local establishment about a DUI. A female was contacted in her vehicle. An investigation was conducted, and the female was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence.

• A deputy and Lopez EMS responded when a Lopez individual was experiencing symptoms of an overdose. The individual was treated by EMS and airlifted to a hospital.

July 28

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a theft in the Friday Harbor area. An item had been stolen from a local business. The person who took the item was located and arrested for theft, 3rd degree, and was issued a citation and released.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a vandalism call. An unknown individual spray-painted and destroyed signs for a local business. The cost of the sign’s replacement makes the crime felonious in nature. An investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy investigated an incident that occurred in front of a local business on Orcas. A suspect was arrested for malicious mischief and booked into jail in Friday Harbor.

• On Lopez, deputies assisted a swimmer in Fisherman Bay. The person was picked up by an agency boat and transported to shore.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a non-injury motor vehicle collision in the parking lot of a local business. The individuals exchanged information and a report was taken.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a traffic offense. A person reported an incident of road rage that ended in a non-reportable collision. The other driver left the scene after photographing the reporting party’s license plate. They were not identified, but a photograph was obtained.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a non-injury-accident call in which a driver collided with a stationary post on private property.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and issued the driver a citation for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

July 29

• An Orcas deputy responded to a vandalism call. An unknown suspect shot a victim’s home window with a pellet/bb gun causing minor damage. There were no suspect leads to investigate further.

• San Juan deputies responded to the Sheriff’s Station for found property. The property owner was contacted, and the property was returned.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a road rage incident. The suspect vehicle was located. The driver was arrested for reckless driving, driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

• San Juan deputies served an arrest warrant on an individual without incident. The subject was transported and booked into the San Juan County Jail.

July 30

• A Lopez deputy responded to a dog bite without injury. The incident was documented in a report, and the health department was notified per county policy.

• A visiting dog chased horses on Lopez. The dog’s owner was issued a dog-at-large citation, first offense.

• A deputy was dispatched to an unwanted person in the San Juan area. The deputy made contact with the people involved. During this time a disturbance occurred resulting in one person being arrested and released on a citation for assault.

• On San Juan, a phone was found and turned in to the sheriff’s office. The item was placed in the evidence room for safekeeping.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a person who wanted to turn themselves in for warrants. The person was booked into the jail.

July 31

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision. There is no suspect information as the owner was off the island for some time; the incident was documented.

• A Lopez resident reported the theft of a license tab, likely from their mailbox. The tab was entered into the stolen property database.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of a hit-and-run.

• A deputy was contacted about an animal problem in the San Juan area. Someone was reporting an issue with neighbors coming onto their property. The people involved were contacted.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of two dogs at large. One dog owner was previously warned and was issued a citation, the second was issued a dog-at-large warning letter.

• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a report of an assault and arrested a person and booked them for assault in the fourth degree.

August 1

• A deputy observed someone with a suspended driver’s license driving a vehicle in Friday Harbor. The deputy’s report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and issued them citations for speeding, 45 mph in a 25 mph zone, and for an expired registration of more than two months.
