The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

June 19

• A deputy conducted a welfare check on a person who had been sending money under questionable circumstances. After a conversation with the person, it appeared they had indeed been the victim of a scam. The victim said they would follow up with the sheriff’s office if the promised money did not appear.

• A Friday Harbor man was arrested on an arrest warrant and booked into the San Juan County Jail.

• San Juan deputies responded to a third-party report of a person in crisis. The person was contacted and declined offers of immediate assistance. After speaking with the person at length, a plan was developed for the person to seek assistance on their own.

• Lopez deputies responded to a bicycle versus car collision; the incident remains under investigation.

• After responding to a parking complaint regarding boats at the Outer Island County Dock in Roche Harbor, a San Juan deputy issued the owners of three vessels citations for permit violations.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the owner had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested and released with citations for DWLS 3rd-degree and for not having insurance.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a stolen electric bicycle. After a juvenile was found to have the bike, the deputy sent a report to the prosecutor’s office for several charges.

June 20

• Lopez deputies, with Lopez Island Fire & EMS responded to a missing person report. The person was located and the incident was documented.

• A Lopez deputy responded to an alarm call.

• A call to a deputy about an unwanted person was resolved peacefully.

• On Orcas, a deputy was asked to conduct a welfare check. After meeting with the individual, the deputy offered medical service provider suggestions to a person who displayed signs of dementia and to their loved ones.

June 21

• An Orcas deputy responded to an unwanted person call at a local market. A person, who was intoxicated to the point of unconsciousness, was treated by Orcas Fire & EMS and flown off the island for further treatment.

• Since the owner of a cell phone that was found on San Juan was unknown, it was turned into the sheriff’s office and entered as evidence.

• On Orcas, a deputy stopped a driver known to be associated with a wanted person. The driver, who had an expired license, said the person wasn’t with him. The wanted person was, however, found hiding under items in the back seat. Both people were arrested: one for the warrant, the other for providing false statements.

• Deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute on Orcas. It was determined that the person had displayed signs of being a danger to others, but it appeared to be a mental health concern. The subject was taken to the hospital under the involuntary treatment act without incident.

• A deputy on Lopez found property lost on Ferry Road.

June 22

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a vehicle that was off the roadway. Once on the scene, the deputy found no crime had occurred and did find that a very generous local Good Samaritan had towed the car from the ditch and assisted the driver with other needs.

• A Lopez resident’s ring camera recorded an unknown male trespassing on private property. The footage was saved for evidence.

• San Juan deputies responded to an incident of disorderly conduct and the involved parties were removed from a local business. No criminal charges were filed.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a driver at the intersection of Fisherman Bay and Hummel Lake Road and issued them a speeding citation for traveling 40 MPH in a posted 25 MPH zone.

June 23

• An Orcas resident reported a theft of belongings from her property. She believes the suspect is a man on Orcas who was hired to do some work around her property. At the time of the report, a list of the missing items was compiled and an investigation commenced.

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft in the Friday Harbor area after a local business reported a shoplifter. The person was located and admitted to the theft; one juvenile was arrested and referred to juvenile services.

• A Lopez resident reported that packages delivered to her mailbox were opened and left in the mailbox. Nothing was lost and no known suspects.

• On San Juan, deputies received a report of an assault. After investigating the incident, deputies determined it did not rise to the level of criminal assault, but that it should be reported to the complainant’s HR department for potential employment ramifications.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of suspected drugs, which turned out to be pieces of burnt aluminum foil. The deputy took custody of the items and submitted them as evidence for destruction.

• An Orcas, a deputy responded to a complaint of disorderly conduct at a local business. The owner asked to have a person trespassed, and deputies completed a trespass warning letter and served it to the person in question.

• After deputies on San Juan answered a domestic incident report, one individual was taken into custody and booked in to the San Juan County Jail for assault in the 4th degree-domestic violence and malicious mischief in the 3rd degree-domestic violence.

June 24

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a suspicious circumstance call. The complainant was awakened at around 3:30 a.m. by what sounded like rocks striking the windows of his residence. The incident is under investigation.

• A report of a burglary on Orcas was determined by deputies to be unfounded.

• A Friday Harbor man was found deceased in his residence after a welfare check was requested. There were no signs of foul play and an investigation into the cause of death is underway.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of a domestic incident.

• A Deputy on Orcas responded to a third-party report of threats. The victim did not wish to speak to the deputy about the incident.

June 25

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of harassment and, after an investigation determined it was an aggravated assault. One person was taken into custody for second-degree assault-DV and burglary in the first degree.

• A single diamond-type earring was found at the Friday Harbor ferry landing and turned into the sheriff’s office where it was placed in the property and evidence room.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to and documented a report of harassment.
