Financial fraud, missing mouthpiece, fencing fix | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Sept. 11

• Deputies responded to a welfare check in Eastsound. The person was found and given contact information for the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT).

• A deputy responded to a theft call near Moran State Park. The reporting party stated an E-Bike was stolen. There were no suspects at the time.

Sept. 12

• A deputy filed a found property report after a bag containing personal items, keys, and dentures was located and dropped off at the Orcas Sheriff’s substation.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a welfare check. After arriving, Lopez Island Fire & EMS were dispatched for a medical concern and ultimately an individual was airlifted to a hospital for further evaluation and care.

• San Juan deputies received a referral from another agency. The deputies followed up with the involved people.

• A deputy on Orcas received a complaint of bank fraud totaling over $12,000 from a local business. An investigation is ongoing.

• Deputies were dispatched to a civil problem on San Juan. The incident involved a property line dispute. The issue is currently in litigation but the deputy provided some additional steps to take.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 42 mph on Tucker Ave. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

Sept. 13

• Several items were turned in to the San Juan Sheriff’s Office as found property and entered into evidence.

Sept. 14

• A Lopez deputy completed a report regarding a person in crisis. The appropriate service providers have been trying to help the person.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a non-injury collision. One of the drivers received a citation for not having proof of liability insurance. The deputy completed a collision report.

• On San Juan, a deputy took custody of a found bicycle that had been reportedly left in the same place for a week. The bicycle was submitted into evidence as found property.

• A deputy reported to the Emergency Room at Peace Medical Center in Friday Harbor after a call about a dog bite. An individual was bitten on their forearm by a family member’s large breed dog, causing an injury. The victim believed it to be an accident.

• A deputy on San Juan conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle. In addition to citations for an expired registration of more than 2 months and for not having insurance, the motorcyclist also received verbal warnings.

Sept. 15

• On San Juan, a mechanical malfunction on one of the patrol boats caused minor damage to the vessel. The boat was docked back in District 1 for repairs to be completed as soon as possible.

Sept. 16

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Spring Street in Friday Harbor for driving 45 mph in a posted 25 mph zone and issued them a speeding citation.

• On San Juan, a deputy took a report of property damage that had occurred approximately one month prior. It was reported that a tenant of a condo caused significant damage to fencing, but was allowed to repair the damages.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of trespassing. After an investigation, the report was determined to be unfounded.

Sept. 17

• On San Juan, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of blackmail via social media and gathered the information.

• A driver on Lopez, who was traveling 46 mph in a 25 mph zone was cited for speeding and forgot having proof of insurance.

• A deputy on San Juan spoke with a controlling authority of a property who wished to have an individual trespassed for one year.

• On San Juan, deputies took a report of stolen property after a person accidentally left a new laptop bag in Friday Harbor and couldn’t find it when they went back for it. Camera footage shows the item being picked up by someone else. The investigation continues.
