“Come out for a fun-filled time and a great cause to support Lopez youth at the annual Lopez Talent Show at the Community Center on Friday, April 18,” said Huck Phillips, coordinator of the event, sponsored each year by Lopez Middle School. The show benefits the spring field trips taken each year by each middle school grade.

In the past, acts have featured talent by Lopez residents from ages five to 70 juggling, singing, performing skits or playing music. “It’s always entertaining to see your island neighbors on stage,” said Phillips. “We hope to have another successful year.”

A pie auction will occur between acts. “The quality of the pies is superb. We get some pretty outrageous offerings,” said Phillips. “The auctioning has been known to become pretty intense.” Baked goods, coffee and tea will be available for sale to the audience as well.

Last year, the sixth graders went to Seattle for an “Urban Plunge.” They visited museums and attended a Mariners game. This year, the seventh grade will travel to the Grand Coulee area in central Washington to learn about electrical power generation and study the ancient geology of Washington. The eighth grade customarily takes a backpack trip on the Olympic Peninsula.

The show runs from 7 to 10 p.m. on April 19 at the Lopez Community Center. Tickets are $8 for adults and $3 for youth at the door.
