The Lady Vikings softball team opened their league play with a double-header at home against La Conner on March 29. The Braves took the games 10-3 and 10-7.

The Ladies traveled to Concrete for tough loss against the Lions, 7-6, on April 2. Coach Jason Nichols was pleased with how his team rebounded after the La Conner games, but losing by one run was not easy.

“That was a tough loss, but the highlight of the game was Katy Minnis going 2/3 with a couple singles and two runs scored,” said Nichols. “Emily Nichols pitched six innings with three strikeouts and only two walks and balanced her day with 2/4 hitting including a double and two RBI’s. Also contributing was Emma Minnis with a double and Jessie Nichols blasting her first home run and getting an RBI in the process.”

Nichols acknowledges the next scheduled league game in Friday Harbor this Saturday will test his young team.

The Viking baseball team hosted the La Conner Braves for a double header, splitting the day with a 4-0 loss and a 6-2 win on March 29.

“In the first game we played okay,” said Coach Jim Passer. “Miles Harlow pitched and threw the ball well. Our hitting was alright, especially since it was against probably the best pitcher in our league, but we had trouble getting guys across the plate. We left way too many guys standing on base. In the second game Pasha Bullock pitched and did a good job for us and also got a couple hits and runs. Ivan (Vanya) Bullock also got a couple hits and runs. The second game was a really good win for our guys.”

The Vikings played a non-league game against a strong A school, Lynden Christian, losing 17-6, on March 31.

Passer noted, “Our hitting got better in this game. It was really good for us to step up to the challenge and play a really good team.

The Vikings traveled to Concrete on April 2 and took the Lions 19-9.

“Miles Harlow pitched, striking out seven, and Hayden Simpson relieved and did a good job for us. Every guy scored, which is cool.”
