All Orcas Island camera enthusiasts are invited to take part in a major exhibit of abstract photographs to be held throughout September at Orcas Center.
Although the show is sponsored by Orcas Island Camera Club, entrants need not be members of that group. Entries will be accepted at the center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2. An artists reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m.
A large show is expected, with both the main Center gallery and the Madrona Room slated to display the images.
This may be the island’s first major photo show dedicated to a single theme, said Dave Kosiur, OICC president and exhibit chairperson.
The theme “Abstract Photography” grew out of the club’s recent discussions of abstract images; the resulting photos and the animated discussions that followed suggest that the theme, while focusing on a single area, still allows for great variety in individual photographers’ styles. So the show should be “something special,” Kosiur adds.
The exhibit committee reserves the right to decide whether a given entry fits into the broad theme.
