The Orcas Island Middle School was broken into on Friday, Dec. 26. Four computers and a laptop were stolen with an approximate value of $6,000.
According to Sheriff Bill Cumming, the theft is still under active investigation.
“I feel we need to take a look at security, but I don’t think there was anything we could have done, except an alarm, which seems a little extreme,” said Superintendent Barbara Kline.
School board member Janet Brownell said, “It’s unfortunate in a community as great as ours – and during the holiday season – that the school district has been victimized like this.”
