Orcas museum thankful for ‘Cruise into History’ efforts | Letter

Each year the “Cruise into History” tour sells out more quickly, and this year was no exception. Even though our historian/narrator Tom Welch unfortunately was not able to make the boat because of a health emergency the day before, Captain Dan Wilk and our talented team of board members stepped in and took turns on the microphone to tell about various aspects of Orcas history as the 56-foot Orcas Express circled our fair isle on the five-hour trip. It was a beautiful day and the guests were treated to great food and stories about well-known Native residents as well as the early white settlers who came here in the late nineteenth century, including fascinating facts and tidbits about the small industries they set up in waterfront villages all around the islands.

We know that Tom is on the mend and hope the very best for his good health in the long term. We also would like to extend a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to Denise Wilk and Captain Dan for donating $2500  – the proceeds of the tour – to the Orcas Island Historical Museum.  The tour is always one of the highlights of our annual events and we look forward to more adventures next summer!
