The Vikings golf team sent a diluted squad due to illness to Anacortes to play La Conner and Mt. Vernon on March 29.
Head coach Bobby Olmsted said the course was difficult for the Orcas players because the greens had just been plugged and sanded.
“Despite the difficult conditions, Mia Lewis-Shunk shot a respectable round of 52,” he said. “The gentleman faced the same conditions and were led by Ricardo De Anda’s low score of the year with a 60, followed by eighth grader Ewan Lister’s low round of 62. Joseph Brewer finished off the boys team with a 79.”
Orcas hosted Friday Harbor on April 7 and Olmsted was impressed with the Orcas course and the talented 16-member Wolverine club coached by Jack Rice.
Olmsted said, “On the men’s side, Ewan Lister tied his older brother Rowan with a season low score of 58 followed by Seri O’Toole and Leif Gustafson both having shot a first match score of 65 followed by Ricardo De Anda’s tough round of 79. The Lady Vikings had their best round to date led by Mia Lewis-Shunk with a low of 45 and her twin sister right on her heals with a season low of 47. Emily Toombs shot a 65 but did not finish. This was the nicest day we have had this season.”
