The Funhouse Commons is starting a Math Olympiad Team for 4-6th graders, through the national Math Olympiad organization.

The math club meets weekly for an hour. Club members explore a topic or strategy in depth with the following goals:

“To stimulate enthusiasm and a love for mathematics. To introduce important mathematical concepts. To teach major strategies for problem solving. To develop mathematical flexibility in solving problems. To strengthen mathematical intuition. To foster mathematical creativity and ingenuity. To provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges.”

The highlights for students are the five monthly contests, given from November to March. No traveling is required. These contests provide an incentive for students to intensify their study of math.

The Funhouse Commons will be holding an information meeting with parents and students on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 3:30 p.m. Students who can’t attend, but are still interested in participating are asked to call Krista at 376-7177 or email krista@thefunhouse.org.

Destination Imagination and Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind and Destination Imagination are educational clubs that emphasize problem solving skills for a variety of ages.

“We would like to start more educational clubs for elementary age students,” Krista said. “Let us know if you are interested in participating and helping us start one or both of these groups.”
