A large evergreen tree crashed through a guest lodging building at Orcas Suites at Rosario this week.
The tree “did a considerable amount of damage,” said general manager Dick Hansen, crushing part of the roof and one guest room, as well as the deck and stairway.
“Yes, there was a little tree mishap here,” he said. “The tree just decided it was time to end its life, I guess. It wasn’t a big wind storm or anything.. it just happened to give up the ghost.”
Hansen said no one was in the room at the time and there were no injuries, and said they have yet to determine the extent of the damage.
“We do periodically inspect around the buildings,” said Hansen. “We’ve had a few trees removed in the past few years but this one did not seem to show signs of immediate issues.”
Orcas Suites has 50 water view guest rooms and suites in 5 buildings and are able to accommodate all of their current guests.
