The Island Sinfonia will begin its fall rehearsals on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon in the school band room.
Pamela Wright, whose credentials include teaching music and violin in the elementary school, and Ned Griffin, who has played trombone in the Sinfonia for several years and conducted the group at the 2010 MAG school benefit concert, will be the co-conductors of the chamber ensemble.
Island Sinfonia will be taking a different direction this year and focus on music more suited to a smaller orchestra.
“We hope to play more Bach and Vivaldi this year,” Wright said. “More strings are always needed, especially violins, and new players are encouraged to come to the first rehearsal.”
The Island Sinfonia has been in existence for more than 20 years and in spite of the limited ferry schedule, members come from Lopez, Shaw, San Juan, and Bellingham every week to rehearse and perform.
