On Thursday, the Orcas Viking volleyball team lost the match to La Conner in three out of three games; the scores were 8/25 La Conner, 16/25 La Conner, and 6/25 La Conner.
Coach Greg Sasan said, “La Conner just had too many weapons to use against us on Thursday. My team though, showed tremendous spirit though the scores do not reflect their passion for the game; we served very well and won several successions of rallies. Sydney Harris, Anika Thomas and Lanie Padbury especially threw their backs into it and never gave up.
I would say we lost mental focus in the first game, and played much better in the second game and stumbled with our concentration in the third. The starters tried as hard as they could to keep the energy flowing, but part of playing as a team is learning to play hard even when the points say you’re going down. The whole team was working towards that.”
The Orcas volleyball team hopes to play at district in the coming weeks, and must tie with Shoreline in order to do so. They play Mt. Vernon Christian on Tuesday, Oct. 28, then Shoreline on Thursday, Oct. 30 at Shoreline.
