Fire Marshal Robert Low has already declared an early Friday morning fire that left a large hole in the center of Chimayo Restaurant’s dining room floor an accident and turned it over to the insurance company.

“It is a pretty clear cut case of spontaneous combustion of a laundry basket of clean linens and kitchen cloths that were washed the night before,” Low said. “It happens. I have seen it more than once.”

In addition to the hole, the restaurant suffered smoke damage and there was smoke damage to the hallways leading up to the restaurant.
