Duplicate Bridge Every Monday at 7 p.m. at the Longhouse in Eastsound duplicate bridge. For details call 376-2797 or 376-8278.

Chess The Orcas Chess Club meets at Eastsound Library at 3:30 p.m., every Monday afternoon. Members age five to 105 with exceptions at both ends are welcome. Contact Phil Heikkinen at the library for details.

Al-Anon The Al-Anon group on Orcas meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Parish Hall to the right of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Al-Anon is for friends and family of alcoholics.

Open Mic The Lower Tavern has open mic night weekly starting at 7:30 p.m. Jaen Black will host the event. Everyone is welcome.

Theosophical Library Indralaya’s Theosophical Library is open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. The theosophical discussion group also meets at Indralaya from 7:30 to 9 p.m. For info call 376-4526 or email indralaya@indralaya.com.

Open Mic Pizza Night A weekly benefit at Doe Bay Resort Cafe with a different nonprofit organization chosen to benefit each month. Dinner served from 6 to 10 p.m. and the Open Mic starting between 7 and 8 p.m.

Blood pressure check-up There is a free blood pressure check-up between 10 a.m. and noon at the Orcas Island Medical Clinic. No appointment is needed.

SATURDAY

Ping Pong The Orcas Table Tennis Association plays at the Orcas Christian School gym. The table tennis games run from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is sponsored by the West Beach Resort, and there is a $2 admission charge to help pay for rental fees. For more info, call Jamey Hanse at 376-2240.

U.S.-Russia relations The lecture series Crossroads: Ideas for a New Century will continue at Orcas Center at 7:30 p.m. Stephen Hanson, Herbert J. Ellison Professor of Political Science and Director of the Ellison Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies at the University of Washington, will speak on “Reassessing U.S.-Russian Relations in the Obama Administration.” Tickets may be obtained at Darvill’s Bookstore and the Orcas Library at no cost.

SATURDAY, March 14

15th Annual St. Patrick’s Auction Orcas Montessori is holding its biggest fundraiser of the year at 6 p.m. at the Outlook Inn Victorian Room. Tickets are $25 and include gourmet appetizers and a glass of wine. The theme of this year’s auction is “Let’s go Green” and will feature planters made by local artists as well as other items. Tickets are on sale now at Darvill’s Book Store and Orcas Montessori. Childcare is available for an additional fee. Call 376-5350 for more information.

Writers’ Roundtable The next Writers’ Roundtable is inspired by the “Plein Air Poets of San Luis Obispo County” and their collection. River Malcolm will facilitate the meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Orcas Library. The roundtable will include a guided imagery simulation of a plein air poetry outing, with each writer visiting a location of their choosing, and an opportunity to free-write and share. All are welcome.

Olga potluck Join the Olga community as they celebrate the Wearing o’ the Green with a bit of the blarney, lively music, fun, great home-cooked food (bring a covered dish , or salad , or dessert), and an interesting program. Phil Heikkinen, Director of the Orcas Island Public LIbrary, will join Library trustee Tom Welch for an informal discussion of current library issues, some of the future challenges facing the library, and community questions. Come to the Olga Community Center at 5:30 p.m. for social hour followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7:30 p.m. Wear something green (creative is good) and be eligible to win a prize for best, most interesting, or most fun accessory, and bring your best Irish limerick to share for the merriment of all.

Orcas Choral Society The Orcas Choral Society will present the “Requiem” by Gabriel Faure’ on Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, March 15 at 3 p.m. at the Orcas Island Community Church located at 176 Madrona Street in Eastsound. Admission to the concert is free but donations are welcome.

Free bike fix-it days at the Funhouse Spring is here and it is time to fix up your bike, check the brakes, oil the chain, tune it up, and get a good helmet! In preparation, the Funhouse and Mikial Denker will be offering two bike repair workshops. An electric bike will be on display, and Denker is a resource for building fun and alternative bike set-ups. Drop by, bring your bike, learn new things and get ready for spring! Times: 11 to 2 p.m. each day.

Orcas Garden Club Mediterranean Gardens is the topic for this month’s garden club meeting at 10 a.m. in the Madrona Room of the Orcas Center. Terry Stanley and Terry Moyemont, owners of Mesogeo Gardens on Bainbridge Island, will travel to Orcas to present a program on Mediterranean plants and design. The public is encouraged to attend.
