Artwork by internationally known artists Kate Scott and Marc Foster Grant will be featured at Orcas Center next month in the show, “Folly a Deux”.
“Kate has the most wonderful sense of humor and she loves to play with words and then transform that into some of her artwork,” said friend Bev Leyman. “Mark is just full of life and energy. This art show is going to be spectacular. People are going to come back to see this show more than once, absolutely.”
She also said the show is a great indicator of “what’s going on in the art world”.
The exhibit opens Friday, July 2 at 5:30 p.m. with a reception for Scott and will run through August 3. A reception for Grant will be held Thursday, July 22 at 5:30 p.m.
About the artists:
Kate Scott grew up on Bainbridge Island and moved to Lopez in 1989 after spending a few years in California. Much of her work is focused on how humans affect the environment.
“Art has historically been a mirror of the collective consciousness of a society; a record of events, attitudes and belief systems,” says Kate. “My work emanates from what I see and hear around me; not only the beauty of nature, but also the threat to it… I don’t try to be satiric or funny; the work just comes out that way because that’s how I see things.”
Scott earned her B.S. In Applied Art and Design from California Polytechnic State University.
Marc Foster Grant’s held his first art show at the age of 13. Featuring 5’x8′ paintings of phosphorescent sea creatures, the display earned him membership in the San Diego Museum’s Art Guild.
“I have been accused of color, clash and whimsey,” says Grant on his Web site. “Giving popular culture a nudge is a favorite pastime- especially when it comes to architecture and fashion.”
Grant and his wife Jeanne won awards in the field of fashion design before moving to Lopez in 1985. Grant holds a Masters degree in print making and has won numerous awards for his fine art. For more information, see http://www.marcfostergrant.com/.
