Bossy’s Feltworks, an Orcas based handcrafts business, has been chosen to have its work sold at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. this summer.
The Folklife Festival is a 10-day event on the National Mall that draws over one million attendees. The Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage runs the festival, which includes a Smithsonian Marketplace where handcrafts and artisan items from around the United States are sold.
Bossy’s Feltworks’ needle-felted sheep and mobiles were selected by Smithsonian Marketplace staff via an internet search of the handcrafted sales platform Etsy.com.
“Our Etsy shop has been a key component in establishing Bossy’s Feltworks’ customer base, and has
also provided opportunities such as this one to us,” according to the business partners.
Begun in 2006, Bossy’s Feltworks is the cooperative effort of partners Amy Lum, Mandy Troxel, and Kari Van Gelder. In the last three years they have innovated more than 200 whimsical and fun felted products for children and adults alike.
“The ideas just keep coming,” Troxel says.
Bossy’s Feltworks can be found weekly at their booth at the Orcas Farmers’ Market. Locally, their work is also sold at Pawki’s Pet Boutique and for the holidays at Darvill’s Bookstore and the Artisans’ Faire.
