VanderYacht Propane is a family-owned, multi-generational business that can now include Orcas Island on its list of service areas.

Craig VanderYacht and his wife Jodi opened an office on San Juan Island five years ago, and have been busy ever since. They offer tank installations, propane delivery, and “anything that is connected to propane.” In addition to serving the San Juans, the company provides full propane service in Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, and Island counties; its main office is in Lynden, Wash.

Jodi says they originally planned to serve both San Juan and Orcas, but haven’t branched out until now.

“Several people have been asking us to come over to Orcas, so it was time,” she said. “Competition is healthy – customers win when there’s competition.”

Since July 1 VanderYacht has been delivering to Orcas from its San Juan location. Jim Passer is their Orcas driver. The company is looking at property, and plans to buy a piece of land to house an office.

“It’s rapidly growing,” Jodi said. “It’s actually pretty easy to operate from the San Juan office, but we’ll have a location on Orcas soon.”
