Thank you for printing my letter on leaving Orcas Medical Center.
In the past week I have received numerous phone calls and letters from people on our island. They remain my teachers with heart felt comments and memories.
One doesn’t measure one’s success against the size or volume of the effect you’ve had. You gauge it from the difference you made with the person you cared for. Is leading an army that wins a war really that much more satisfying than teaching a child to ride a bicycle? At my age you go for the small things and you do them as well as you can.
That is my new mantra. Forget the planet, save the garden. Thank you, Orcas.
