Choose leadership for the people, not personal agendas | Letter

As the election approaches, it is essential we evaluate the candidates for San Juan County Council based on their actions and principles, not empty promises. Kari McVeigh, a career bureaucrat, presents herself as a champion of progress, but my firsthand experience working under her reveals a relentless pursuit of control. Her leadership was not about reasoned debate or the interests of the community — it was about imposing her agenda, regardless of the consequences. Electing someone like McVeigh, driven by power, will only lead to more regulations, higher taxes, and a stifling of individual freedom.

By contrast, Stephanie O’Day embodies rational leadership rooted in reality. For over 30 years, she has proven her commitment to solving real problems — whether it’s helping small businesses navigate challenges or advocating for housing that benefits everyone. O’Day understands that a thriving community is built through reason and productive action, not coercive policies.

We must choose leaders who value individual rights and practical solutions over divisive ideology. Stephanie O’Day offers the clear, rational leadership San Juan County needs.
