On behalf of the coaches of Orcas Rec Soccer Program, thank you to the many Key Club members who volunteered their time over the past eight weeks to referee youth soccer games at Buck Park. The Key Club volunteers were dependable, skillful and kind referees, and their presence helped our games go smoothly. As coaches and parents, we appreciate not only their generosity of time and attention, but also the example they are setting as young people who are committed to their community. Special thanks to Halley McCormick who coordinated the volunteers and kept up communication with exceptional professionalism. Philanthropy — including volunteerism — is a learned behavior, taught by example. I’m proud of the example our community is setting for our young people and thank the Key Club for leading the way.
