In keeping with our mission to promote women’s voices in political leadership, Orcas Women’s Coalition is pleased to announce we stand in unanimous agreement to endorse Mia Kartiganer for position #5, Port of Orcas, in the general election this fall. The Steering Committee interviewed Ms. Kartiganer and she spoke with our membership at the September Quarterly Meeting. We then sent out a poll to our 275+ members and the response we received solidified our universal support for Mia as Port Commissioner #5.
Mia is a long-time resident of Orcas. She has been a local business owner, rental manager and carpenter. She has first-hand experience with the socio-economic diversity of the island and is in favor of preserving the community and environment first while still welcoming visitors. She is committed to careful examination of any proposed changes to the airport,
With a sharp eye on environmental reviews. We appreciated her sense of fairness and inclusion and the time she had taken to learn so much about the Port. She will bring a genuine interest to the job of commissioner and a depth of understanding about the many ways the airport impacts our people, our land and our future.
