‘Plant a Row for the Hungry’ is underway

Array

After the success of last summer’s Plant A Row for the Hungry Campaign the Orcas Island Master Gardeners once again encourage island home gardeners to remember our neighbors while planning your vegetable garden this year.  Plant A Row is a national communications program encouraging garden communities to donate fresh vegetables and fruit to local area food banks and other organizations serving neighbors in need.

Consider growing a little extra in your garden for those neighbors and donate the produce to the Orcas Island Food Bank.

The Orcas Island Food bank is currently located in the basement at the Community Church, 176 Madrona Street in Eastsound.  The Food Bank will soon be moving into it’s newly acquired building which is being installed next to the Church.  “Extra” produce can be dropped off during Food Bank open hours: Tuesday 12:30-2 p.m. and Thursdays 5:30-6:30 p.m. and should be washed and bagged.

Plant A Row is rooted in the heartfelt tradition of gardeners sharing bountiful harvest with others.  By delivering directly to the Orcas Island Food Bank you can make a difference for your neighbors who experience hunger or the threat of hunger.  For more information go to www.orcasislandfoodbank.org or contact me at 468-3727.
