Regarding the press release in the Islands’ Sounder (March 13, 2019, “Orcas Shelter Manager Waunch retires” recounting the history of the animal shelter, the work of Marsha Waunch and others in its creation and Marsha’s directorship of the shelter, the headline of the press release may have suggested to readers that Marsha’s retirement had already occurred.

Marsha is still working at the shelter and has graciously agreed to stay on to support the recruitment and training of the next director. The recruiting process for the job of director is ongoing until the position is filled and until then no departure date will be set.

The board wishes to thank Marsha for her continuous dedication to the shelter during this process.
