What was most impressive to me about the Republican Party of San Juan County’s ad in last week’s Sounder was that it contained no information. Instead, it included two emotional appeals to fear and anger. “Had Enough Yet?” it asks. And, then adds: “Let’s Save America!” Had enough of what yet? Save us from what, or whom?

Perhaps I’m not sufficiently in the Republican orbit to automatically know what these phrases are meant to indicate for San Juan County and Washington state. The ad doesn’t help there. What it does do, as far as I can see, is to call on me to vote straight ticket Republican because I’m afraid and angry.
