Tambour Creole Arts Cooperative of Limbe’, Haiti had its first U.S. show at Millie’s Antiques and Collectibles in Eastsound at the end of August. The show ended with a rousing gathering of Orcas artists and supporters who had donated time and goods for an auction. Much of the work was sold, and the first payment has been made to the artists, one of whom needed it to pay school fees for his children.
As these artists struggle to earn a living in a country where unemployment is the norm rather than the exception, a show such as this gives them a boost which is difficult for us to imagine.
We are writing on their behalf to thank our ever generous community for reaching out and helping to confirm this island-to-island collaboration.
The good news is that there are some fine paintings left which will be available at the “On and Off the Wall” show at Orcas Center beginning Oct. 1.
Don’t miss the show. Thanks to all.
