A whale of a time: OCS students explore the wonders of marine life at the whale museum

Submitted by Orcas Christian School.

Recently, Mrs. Morgan’s fourth- and fifth-grade class at Orcas Christian School embarked on an unforgettable field trip to the Whale Museum in Friday Harbor. During the trip, students engaged in an interactive game to help them understand how different organisms interact across various trophic levels in marine ecosystems.

“We explored amazing exhibits about marine mammals and even got to see life-size skeletons of various sea creatures! The highlight of our trip was an interactive presentation where the kids got to dive deeper into the world of orcas. It was a whale of a time!” said Morgan. She also took a moment to thank Principal Pottle for joining the class on the trip.

After returning to school, the students channeled their excitement and experiences into a poem, reflecting on the day’s adventure.

Orcas in the Ocean

In the ocean, Orcas play,

Endangered friends they swim and sway.

With salmon on their dinner plate,

They chat and sing, it’s never late.

In pods they thrive, a family tight,

Together they dance, a joyful sight.

So let’s protect their watery home,

For Orcas love, and they need to roam!
