Matt Smith, co-founder of both Seattle Improv and Stark/Raving Theatre, will perform original work at the Artsmith Salon Series at Doe Bay Resort café on Monday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
Smith’s screen credits include “Outsourced,” “Spiderman,” “Sleepless in Seattle,” “Whiteface,” “Northern Exposure,” “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” and “Almost Live!” His acclaimed monologues include “My Last Year with the Nuns,” “Helium,” “My Boat to Bainbridge,” and “Beyond Kindness.”
“Anyone who is writes, or any creative person, should check out Matt while he’s here on Orcas,” Artsmith volunteer Jennifer Brennock said. “The skills of improv and drama can catapult anyone’s life’s work.”
Smith uses his performance and writing experience to teach drama writing based on improvisational theatre theory. With Rebecca Stockley, Smith will be co-facilitating a week-long improvisation retreat at Doe Bay Resort in the yoga studio from February 18 through 27. Participants will be immersed in daily sessions in a variety of improvisation disciplines. Smith said the retreat is for people ready for a breakthrough in their life, creativity, performance, or work.
The weekly Artsmith salon hosts featured writers who come to Orcas from all over the United States. At each salon, the guest writers are accompanied by a reading from a local talent and an open mic for any writer in any genre. Open mic participants are invited to read their original creative writing for 10 minutes.
Monday’s salon is free to attend and the café offers small plates and wine specials for the event in addition to the regular dinner menu.
For rideshare to the salon call Marlia 376-2420 or email salonseries@orcasartsmith.org. Artsmith Salon Series is on Facebook.
