Kailley Grantham, a flutist in the Orcas High School Orchestra, has been selected for the 2009 All State Band. Those chosen participate in auditions to determine the best musicians of Washington’s school band, orchestra and choir programs.
Grantham is currently a member of the Island Sinfonia, Orcas Island Community Band, Orcas Chamber Players and the National Music Honor Society. Grantham performed earlier this month in the San Juan Music Educator’s Association Honor Band and studies with Dave Parish privately.
The Island Sinfonia is collecting donations from the community to help with costs associated with the band. Those interested in donating may make checks out to the Island Sinfonia with Kailley’s name in the memo line.
Grantham will be performing with other High School Orchestra members at the Orcas Island Holiday Tea on Dec. 6, and with the Orcas Island Band performance Dec. 20 at the Orcas Center. She will perform with the All -State Band in Spokane on Feb. 14 through 17.
