Islanders brought their antique treasures to the Grange last Saturday to learn more about their value and history.
Experts at the Antiques Evaluation Fair determined the authenticity, artistry, craftsmanship, rarity, and age of a range of items brought in by locals. All of the certified appraisers donated their time to the event, which was a fundraiser for the Orcas Island Historical Museum.
Orcas resident Mick Stevens presented several pieces for evaluation, including a Chinese, hand-carved jade, coral and wood screen that his mother purchased around 30 years ago.
Another resident brought a doll that Bette Bell, with the International Society of Appraisers, determined was a “German Bisque Sleep Eye, Open Mouth,” circa 1900.
“We would love for this to become an annual event on Orcas,” Micki Ryan, Orcas Museum Curator, said. “The success of this event will be determined by the smiles on faces as people exit.”
