The Orcas Island Artworks will exhibit pastel landscape paintings by Pam Jenkins through the month of June.
Jenkins was an art major in college for a year before choosing to major in elementary and early childhood education. Most of her work was in fiber arts until she visited a gallery in Bow-Edison 20 years ago and fell in love with the look of landscapes in pastel.
“It took me another 12 years to get up the nerve to try it,” she says, but after taking a pastel class in 2001, she was hooked.
Her landscapes are primarily of Orcas, Skagit Valley and the Northwest.
“I love the ever changing color, light, contrast and textures in our environment,” she said. “Pastels have a soft richness similar to working in fibers – layers of peek-a-boo colors interacting with each other like woven strands.”
The Artworks is open daily from 10 to 6.
