The Orcas Island Artworks will reopen for the season on Friday, Feb. 13, featuring new paintings by Bill Trogden.
Trogden is a semi-retired architect living in the Doe Bay Shorewood community on Orcas Island. Over the years he has used his drawing skills to illustrate his architectural designs, sketching in his travel journals, and painting watercolor landscape pictures. His artistic development spanned from K-12 schooling through UW art classes taught by Raymond Hill, George Tsutakawa, Alden Mason, Lionel Pries and lately workshops conducted by Frank Loudin and Terry Johnson.
Trogden served on the Eastsound Planning Review Committee for several years and had a hand in the Eastsound street improvements and beautification projects. He is now a director of the Olga Strawberry Council, a 501(c)3, nonprofit community corporation which is responsible for the building that houses the Orcas Island Artworks, Café Olga, and James Hardman Gallery. He also designs and crafts unique wind-driven whirligigs and is a member of Orcas Palettes. His work will be on display through February and March. The Artworks is open daily from 10 to 6 p.m.
