The Hearts and Hands volunteer caregiver organization and the Orcas Senior Center announce the next speaker in their “Reflections” series to be held May 9 and 10 at the Orcas Senior Center.
Jane Tornatore, Ph.D. whose expertise is in the area of brain health and cognitive disorders will speak about memory and brain health issues. Participants will gain knowledge about what they can do to keep their brain healthy for as long as possible.
Friday, May 9, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Dr. Tornatore will present Brain Health: Boost Your Mental Vitality. The lecture will cover what individuals can do to create a healthy brain including diet, exercise and stress reduction. The lecture is free. Donations are welcome.
Saturday, May 10, Dr. Tornatore will present an in-depth workshop entitled “Your Memory Matters” from from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. She will discuss when memory changes are normal and when they are not, and will offer easy to use tools to enhance clear thinking and strategies to retain and recall memory. The suggested workshop donation is $25.
Dr. Tornatore has a private counseling practice in Seattle and is a care consultant specialist for the Alzheimer’s Association. Hearts and Hands is a non-profit volunteer care giving organization on Orcas Island founded by Lahari Hospice to provide practical and emotional support to assist elderly or disabled adults in maintaining independence and improving their quality of life.
