The internationally-acclaimed, innovative guitarist Bill Frisell will play one performance only at Orcas Center on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
Grammy-award winning, versatile, prolific, eclectic, original are all accurate descriptions of this amazing guitarist, who will grace the Orcas stage for a solo show. The music of Frisell ranges in style from jazz, blues, country, and rock, and his musical associates include Elvis Costello, Burt Bacharach, Rickie Lee Jones, John Zorn, Ginger Baker, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Suzanne Vega, Loudon Wainwright III, Wayne Horvitz, Robin Holcomb and Marianne Faithful, among countless others. A prolific recording artist, Frisell also tours regularly internationally.
Says Rolling Stone Magazine: “Frisell is one of the under-appreciated masters of guitar, perhaps its purest innovator since John McLaughlin. In a world crowded with guitar wizards, his surround-sound drones and commitment to texture make him instantly identifiable. He is known for the pastel environments he creates as much as for his jugular-seeking solos.”
Frisell will perform for an Orcas audience following a two-week engagement at the Village Vanguard in New York City, playing with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano.
Tickets are $20 for the general public, $16 for Orcas Center members and $10 for students. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.orcascenter.org or call or 360/376-2281 ext 1 or visit Orcas Center during box office hours, Thursday-Saturday, noon – 4 p.m.
