The community is invited to a Celtic Christmas featuring Windham Hill artists Jeff Johnson and Irish flautist Brian Dunning and violinist Wendy Goodwin.
The event is hosted by Orcas Island Community Church on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. Space is limited; call 376-6422 for reservations. Suggested donation is $10.
The American/Irish duo of Johnson and Dunning music has become a mainstay in the contemporary Celtic music genre. They have also had music featured in films such as Martin Scorcese’s “Gangs of New York” and accompanying the classic children’s book, “The Tale Of Three Trees.”
Many of the songs from the duo’s popular Christmas recordings, “A Quiet Knowing Christmas” and “Stars In The Morning East – A Christmas Meditation” will be performed in this concert along with music from Brian and Jeff’s latest recording, “King Raven Vols. 1 -3,” based on the best-selling novels by Stephen R. Lawhead.
Goodwin is distinguishing herself as a versatile and creative presence in the Pacific Northwest and beyond through unique violin stylings joining classical, jazz and Americana, say organizers.
This is the kickoff to the Advent season at the Community Church with special Christmas services each Sunday of Advent at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The annual Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
