Come together for a Beatles happening at Orcas Center

The mid-1960s, a musical and cultural high period of the 20th century, is the theme for the Orcas Center’s July 18 fundraiser and Summer Shindig, which will commemorate the Beatles, whose music and personalities are iconic of the era.

The theme of the evening is “Imagine,” named after a song written by former Beatle John Lennon in 1971.

The evening starts with a reception where guests wearing 1960s garb, will be served food and drink by costumed bartenders and servers dressed as characters from Beatles songs such as Rita Meter Maid, Mean Mr. Mustard, Nowhere Man and Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.

A banquet will be held in a tent on the Center grounds followed by an auction of 11 destination packages, such as a night at Seattle’s Edgewater Hotel Beatles Suite and a piano concert by Jon Kimura Parker will be held.

Auction participants may specify their winning auction bid be given in full to the Orcas Center or designate half to be donated to the local non-profit of their choice.

At the conclusion of the auction, guests will experience a performance by Abbey Road LIVE!, a Georgia based musical quartet whose repertoire features more than 100 Beatles songs.

The party continues in the Madrona Room with dancing to music from the 1960s and other eras spun by disc jockey and center board member Bruce Pavitt.

The ticket price of $150 per person includes the cocktail and appetizer reception, banquet, auction, concert and dance party. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Orcas Center.

Tickets for a Sunday, July 19, 7:30 p.m. performance of Abbey Road LIVE! are $24, for Orcas Center members the price is $16 and $10 for students.
