Community foundation to match IOSA donations during fair week

Submitted by the Islands’ Oil Spill Association.

The San Juan Island Community Foundation has very generously offered a matching fund opportunity during the San Juan County Fair next week. The Islands’ Oil Spill Association invites you to participate in this opportunity that will help us acquire and supply an “Oiled Wildlife Assistance Trailer” which will serve as a portable depository of equipment to help birds and animals during a spill in our county waters.

Here’s how it works: The San Juan Island Community Foundation will contribute an additional 50 cents for every dollar contributed by you toward the trailer until the goal of $5,000 of community contributions is met. This means that we can potentially have another $2,500 for the trailer — totaling $7,500. And your contribution will be tax-deductible as the foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Remember that your contribution must be made during the dates of the fair, Aug. 14-17. You can contribute in one of three ways:

• Bring a check to the foundation’s booth at the fair made payable to “San Juan Island Community Foundation” with “IOSA, Oil Wildlife Assistance Trailer” on the memo line.

• Mail a check to the foundation’s address: San Juan Island Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1352, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.

• Use your credit or debit card on the phone by calling 360-378-1001, or donate online by using the foundation’s website. Once online please click the “nonprofit” button and write “IOSA, Oiled Wildlife Assistance Trailer” in the comments section.

Your donations will go toward the trailer itself and important supplies for it such as nets, traps, safety equipment, cleanup materials and deterrence supplies like decoys and noisemakers.

We want to offer a big thanks to the San Juan Island Community Foundation for their wonderful generosity, and to our IOSA members, donors and advocates throughout San Juan County and beyond.

Don’t forget to check the IOSA training opportunities on our website at https://iosaonline.org. Our next class is on Aug. 24.
