‘Cutting Age’ art show at Orcas Center to feature teen artists

The annual “Cutting Age” young persons art show is coming to Orcas Center at the beginning of May. The show will be on display in the lobby and the Madrona Room from May 7 May 29. There will be visual art in a variety of forms, including paintings, drawings, multi-media art, photography and sculpture. This year's show is directed by high school art teacher Corey Wiscomb.

The annual “Cutting Age” young persons art show is coming to Orcas Center at the beginning of May.

The show will be on display in the lobby and the Madrona Room from May 7 May 29. There will be visual art in a variety of forms, including paintings, drawings, multi-media art, photography and sculpture. This year’s show is directed by high school art teacher Corey Wiscomb.

The show kicks off with a reception starting at 7 p.m.. on Friday, May 7. There will be live music and entertainment by young performers and musicians. There will also be potluck food provided by the artists and their friends and family.

All young people interested in submitting work can contact Wiscomb via email at cwiscomb@gmail.com or through the high school at 376-2287. Artists must be 18 years old or under to submit work to the show.

May is also Arts Education Month, a consortium of representatives from over 15 Orcas organizations who are working to promote, provide and sustain arts education for our children. Their vision for arts education on Orcas Island is the following: “The community of Orcas Island believes that arts education is a critical component of the basic education of our children. The young people of Orcas Island are enriched by exposure to and participation on the diversity of dance, music, theater and the visual arts.”
