On Sept. 13, friends gathered to honor Dave Castor for his many years of service to Moran State Park as a career park ranger and for his absolute dedication to the Kokanee salmon hatchery project at Cascade Lake.
Over the years, many people have been involved in this all-volunteer program, but Dave, with his great enthusiasm, has been the continual thread in its fabric. From Dave’s early days where he tended the hatchery boxes placed right in the creek, to our little hatchery building today, he’s been a part of it every step of its evolution.
Kokonee salmon feed many who like to fish, including humans, osprey (seahawks) and bald eagles. Dave’s name was added to the Moran Creek Hatchery sign. Tremendous gratitude was expressed.
