Deer Harbor native Cal McLachlan tells island history

The Orcas Island Historical Museum will feature storytelling by Deer Harbor native Cal McLachlan on Sunday, March 18 at 3 p.m. Born in 1926 on his family’s Pole Pass property, McLachlan worked in the Deer Harbor cannery as well as on fishing boats. Later, while in the service, he was aboard the last U.S. warship to be attacked in WWII. McLachlan taught at Anacortes Junior High School for more than 30 years and eventually became its principal.

In 1987, the McLachlan family celebrated 100 years since their ancestors gained homestead rights in the Deer Harbor area.

These interactive monthly gatherings take place at the Orcas Senior Center once a month on Sunday afternoons. Finger food and refreshments served.  Admission is by donation at the door.
