Washington Federal Bank in Eastsound is the site of Orcas multimedia artist Susan Slapin’s newest exhibition, “Eclectic Art.” A display of pastels, acrylics, mixed media, and printmaking, the exhibition opens August 6 and runs through October 29, 2021.
Coinciding with the bank’s exhibition is the release of the artist’s most recent book, “Painted Bird – Painted skies and pastel poems,” a collection of poetry and pastel paintings inspired by the beauty of nature and a love of color and texture. Slapin will present a reading from Painted Bird at Washington Federal, Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m.
According to San Juan Island author Jill McCabe Johnson, Slapin’s Painted Bird “mines the depths of the subconscious to evoke the contemplative and inspirational.”
A resident of the San Juans for more than a quarter-century, the poet/artist frequently offers classes in the meditative advantages of art. She received her B. A. from Marylhurst University in Oregon. For more information email her at susan@susanslapin.com.
