There were 168 runners in the 2018 Funhouse Fourth of July 5k and 36 runners in the 1k for children.
People of all ages, from 5 to 81, came from all across the country to participate in the annual event.
Lachlan Boyd, 16, of Sedro-Woolley, Washington, was the winner of this year’s Funhouse Fourth of July 5k male division, for the second year in a row. At “a lightning fast” 18 minutes and 22 seconds, he was 80 seconds faster than his time last year, said 5k organizers.
Layna Mosley took first place in the female division with 21 minutes and 39 seconds. This year is the third time she’s won, said organizers.
The group with the largest team and winners of the best costume award was Rainshadow Consulting.
Other teams who participated included Orcas Island Middle School, Orcas Island Fire and Rescue, Team Gladney, West Island, Team Zumbazoom and The Barnacle’s Happy Heart team.
