Grace Kuto, an author who lives in both Kenya and Portland, will be on Orcas on April 18 to share an African cultural experience of music, food, cooking, reading and sharing stories. Kuto will teach a Kenyan cooking class, sign her new book “Harambee! Stories and Recipes from the African Family Circle Cookbook” and hold a Kenyan dinner.
Kuto’s books will be available for sale with 50 percent of the proceeds supporting programs in the Kenya community of Chwele.
The day’s events, in the parish hall of Emmanuel Episcopal church, include the cooking class at 10 a.m., book signing from noon and Kenyan dinner at 6 p.m.
