Orcas Center welcomes the creative story-telling forces of Eth-Noh-Tec with Heroines of History: Portrayals of Asian Women, Pioneers for Change on Monday, July 15 at 7 p.m. on the Main Stage.
As part of a multi-day storytelling Asian storytelling festival curated by the island’s own Nancy Wang and Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo, and under the banner of The OrcAsian American Storyfest (OAASF), this gathering of nationally acclaimed professional Asian American storytellers will grace the stages spinning true tales of Asian American history, personal narratives as well as the magical mirth found in traditional Asian mythology, folktales, and fun.
“Heroines of History: Portrayals of Asian Women, Pioneers for Change” features three Asian American tellers portraying the lives of pioneering women who have impacted history. Roopa Mohan will re-create the life of Kasturba Gandhi. Bowen Lee will embody the pioneering woman mountain climber, first woman to climb Mt. Everest. Nancy Wang will enact the life of Quock Mui, a pioneering Chinese American from the Chinese fishing villages of the Monterey Bay area.
