Island Sinfonia, under the direction of Ned Griffin, will perform on Saturday, May 14, at 1 p.m. at the Emmanuel Episcopal Parish Hall.
This is Island Sinfonia’s fourth concert this spring and will feature the “Brandenberg Concerto No. 2” by J. S. Bach, “The Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint Saens, “The Toy Symphony” attributed to Joseph Haydn, “Tahiti Trot” by Dmitri Shostakovich, “Golliwogg’s Cakewalk” by Claude Debussy, and “The Pennywhistle Jig” by Henry Mancini. Admission will be by donation at the door.
It is director Griffin’s first year leading the Sinfonia. He has achieved positive results with the group by expanding the orchestra’s repertoire and adding more students in the string section. As Sinfonia has musicians from Orcas, Lopez, Shaw and San Juan, the group performs on each of those islands every spring. The performance season will end on May 15 with a concert in Friday Harbor.
All musicians who enjoy playing and performing classical chamber music are invited to join the orchestra. Rehearsals will begin again after Labor Day.
